Yes, I went there…I decided to turn my favorite Easter candy into a full-sized dessert! Say hello to the Cadbury Creme Egg Sundae. It’s the result of my lifelong obsession with Cadbury Creme Eggs. Maybe it was the amazing commercials Cadbury released in the ’80s. Or being fascinated as a kid by the concept of a chocolate egg filled with sweet-tasting yolk. So here’s the first in a series of recipes based on junk food that was popular in the ’80s…
The key to this special dessert is taking the concept of the Cadbury Creme Egg and bringing it to the realm of ice cream treats. It’s not as simple as cracking open the chocolate egg and letting the contents infiltrate a bowl of ice cream. But it’s still pretty darn easy! Keep reading for details…
The Cadbury Creme Egg Sundae
Ingredients (serves 2):
- One pint of chocolate ice cream
- Two large scoops of marshmallow cream
- 6 Cadbury Creme Eggs
- sprinkles for the rim of your glass or bowl (optional)
I found these fried egg gummy candies in the bulk candy section of my local grocery store/market. They have kind of a creamy pineapple flavor. It’s actually not my favorite taste in the world, but I could’t pass up the chance to grab these goodies for the photo shoot (and to use them as garnishes for the sundae)!
Here’s how you concoct the sundae…
Fill two ice cream glasses or bowls with the chocolate ice cream. If you’re all about the sprinkles, wet the rim of your glass or bowl and place it face down on a plate of sprinkles or nonpareils before you add the ice cream. Now that you’ve got the chocolate covered, it’s time to create the egg whites and yolk! Top off your ice cream with one large scoop of marshmallow cream (one scoop per glass).
For the yellow yolk, cut four Cadbury Creme Eggs in half. Scoop out the fillings and place them in a small container. Add a drop or two of yellow food coloring to create a true yolk color and stir until the color is consistent. Put one scoop of the yolk mixture on top of the marshmallow cream in each of the ice cream glasses.
Top off your sundae with a Cadbury Creme Egg and you’re set! And of course, you can add a special garnish like the fried egg candy above.
As you enjoy your sundae, you may find that it starts to melt together into one delicious heap. Perhaps it’s time to grab a straw for the chocolate portion of the dessert!
Experiment with different types of chocolate ice cream and different amounts of marshmallow cream until you get a flavor that you love. And of course, you can’t have too much of that Cadbury yolk, as that’s what gives this dessert its signature taste!
And just to prove that I eat the food I prepare for photo shoots…
Wishing you and yours a Happy Easter! XOXO, Kate

Unfortunately, we don’t have Cadbury eggs here in Portugal. We have Cadbury chocolate chip cookies, chocolate bars, but no eggs…
They seem delicious!
happy Easter Kate!
