Hi there! Just wanted to check in and give you a peek behind the scenes…a little bit about what’s going on in my life and a little bit about what’s going on with the blog. Most of the time, the two seriously overlap! Today it’s a bit more about me than the blog. For starters, I’ve been hitting a LOT of estate sales lately. I love collecting geo forms made from materials like marble and wood. The best part: they’re always marked down pretty low, because people have a hard time pricing random non-designer objects. Works for me!
I’ve also been soaking up the last days of summer. And something unexpected has happened in the past month: I’ve become a morning person. Who’s responsible for this? My little biscuit. Do you see him lounging below? He has a range of health issues, so we’re supposed to feed him and offer him water whenever he wants it (and sometimes even when he doesn’t). So my hubby and I are taking turns when it comes to late night/early morning shifts. You know, like new parents do with an infant–ha!
It turns out I really like being up early, especially in the summer. It’s been extremely hot, so this gives me a chance to exercise outdoors (which I far prefer to the gym), work in the yard (I’m obsessed with plants), and most of all, enjoy spending time with my kitty. I would get up early every day for the rest of my life if that meant keeping him healthy! Here are a few more snapshots from the last month…
Can you spot the glow stick above? It’s a photo I didn’t end up using in the post for Mirror80’s 5th birthday, but I still had fun adding a touch of neon to the celebration. Other photos include a bit of sunlight streaming into the kitchen (a room tour is in the works) , a couple of geo estate sale finds on my bookshelf, and my new peach vase from CB2. So ’80s Deco, right? And only $4.99 right now (seriously). Let’s talk about the plant…
I got two of these large modern planters for my birthday this week. I filled them with “Color Guard” yucca and Silver Falls Dichondra (also known as silver ponyfoot). I LOVE retro style, but in my yard, it’s all about super clean lines and sculptural plants. And since plants and planters of this nature can be expensive, I often ask for them as birthday gifts, or I create a similar look with a DIY project. I can’t wait until the yucca grows a bit more!
I’ll check in again soon with more behind-the-scenes fun. Hope your week is off to a great start!
