Sometimes in the heat of the summer, it’s nice to take a break from the booze. Maybe you’re looking for a non-alcoholic alternative to serve at a party, or perhaps you just want to keep things light and fresh. Today I’m sharing two mocktails that are so easy to prepare, I’d hardly call the instructions below “recipes”. Keep reading for details…
The Cranberry Fizz
First up: a minty cranberry drink inspired by one of my favorite local mocktails. The basic recipe for one serving:
1/2 cup cranberry juice + sparkling water + crushed mint + a splash of citrus
Crush a handful of mint leaves (I used a mortar and pestle). Add ice to the glass of your choice, sprinkle in the mint leaves, and pour in the cranberry juice. I usually start with 1/2 cup of the juice, especially if it’s on the sweet side. I also typically go with a juice that’s a bit more natural (no high-fructose corn syrup), but that’s just a personal preference. Now add the sparkling water, playing with the ratio of juice to fizz until it’s just right. Top it off with a splash of citrus, such as fresh-squeezed lemon or orange juice. I always recommend lime!
A Coconut-Orange Teatail
This mocktail is about as light and refreshing as it gets! Here’s the recipe for one serving:
1 cup sweet green tea + 3 oz coconut water + freshly squeezed orange juice + a splash of lime
I cheated and bought a bottle of slightly sweetened green tea, but you can brew your own tea, add a bit of sugar and let it cool if you prefer. The next part of the recipe will depend on your taste! I love a hint of coconut, but sometimes the strong earthy flavor of coconut water is a bit much for me to handle. Three ounces of coconut water was the perfect amount for me! I then added the juice of 1/3 of an orange and topped it off with a splash of lime. This mocktail is great over ice!
Hope you enjoy these easy-to-prepare summer mocktails!
