They were bright. They made a statement. They were leather. Or snakeskin. Or vinyl. It almost didn’t matter, as long as they were eye-catching. And now they’re back!
The price is right the second time around. From Ebay to your local Goodwill, glossy ’80s purses can be found for as little as a few dollars. Designer items bring in substantially more, but there’s a great selection for every price range.
Trademarks of these shiny items include:
- bold colors
- folds, gathers and pleats
- angled lines, such as slanted flaps
- animal skin textures, either real or faux
- a slick, polished finish
Whether you find a piece directly from the ’80s or a newer item inspired by ’80s style (there are lots of them out there), sometimes a purse is the ideal form for a dynamic dash of color–small enough not to overpower an outfit yet big enough to make a splash. Grab your favorite bangle and ankle boots, and you have an ’80s ensemble in the making…
