Happy Friday! What are your plans for the weekend? I’m working on a new DIY project, trying to reorganize the home office and doings LOTS of yardwork. There will definitely be time for happy hour on the patio! But first things first. Today I’m launching a new series: Retro-Modern Roundup. A couple times a month, I’ll be sharing the latest in new design developments that reference the past. Today it’s all about texture and the New Memphis movement, also known as Modern Memphis. If you like what you see above, read on for details and links…

As part of mid-April’s Milan Design Week, Kartell paid tribute to Ettore Sottsass with a Memphis-style exhibition filled with amazing treasures. [image via designboom]
This Set of 3 Urba Planters from CB2 (designed by Nick Wrona) may not officially be “New Memphis,” but I’m loving the texture and the abstract geo quality they exude.
A super easy idea for a DIY project: create a geo stool by covering the top of an affordable stepstool with contact paper. I used contact paper in cork and granite patterns on the stool in the photo. See the beginnings of the project in this post.

When Bri Emery of Design Love Fest revealed her latest “Make It” project in early April, I was instantly hooked. DIY toilet paper holders?! With materials such as acrylic tubing, door pulls and colorful patterned paper, you too can create a New Memphis masterpiece for the powder room!
Have you seen Darkroom’s new Bauhaus-style brooches designed by Georges Larondelle?! Squares rule in this geometric collection.
Sight Unseen has rounded up some of the most exciting new products from Milan Design Week, like this lamp from the Ossimori collection by Studiopepe.
Wishing you an amazing spring weekend. May it be filled with lots of color, geometry and texture…
