This is the first real week of spring-like weather we’ve had here in Austin, and luckily it’s lining up with South by Southwest! I’ll be sharing a special SXSW post later this week, but today it’s all about the greenery. I purchased a few new modern plants this weekend and re-potted them. I love the ’80s bank lobby vibe that they’re giving off. Read on for more modern plant ideas and photos…
Above we see an Ixora plant. I made sure the one I purchased wasn’t blooming quite yet so I could enjoy the flowers even longer. But first, let’s talk planters. Always make sure there’s good drainage. If your pot or planter of choice doesn’t have a drainage hole, you can always drill your own like I did:
I filled it with Polka Dot Plants (yes, that’s really what they’re called). In the close-up below you can see the stone pattern of the planter. Well, the planter isn’t actual stone, but I love its modern look!
This Parlor Palm was a perfect fit for the stainless steel IKEA container I had in my kitchen window. I simply placed the plastic planter into the container and voila – instant metallic shine. Kind of like the planters from ’80s hotel and bank lobbies!
By now you probably know how much I love marble tiles. I’m constantly picking them up from my local Floor & Decor, then staging photo shoots with them. The small white marble pieces are also from the flooring store. They’d fallen off the larger tile segments, and one of the store employees let me have them for free!
Here’s one more shot of the Ixora. I planted it in a large grey pot, and it’s kind of the centerpiece of my backyard now! I’ll be posting more photos of the yard (and this plant in its new pot) once spring officially arrives. Stay tuned…
Here’s my collection of small plants, which now live in my ’80s-style kitchen. You’ll see more photos of them when I post my kitchen tour in a couple of weeks.
Wishing you a great start to the week. Happy Monday!
