It’s been way too long since we’ve taken a trip to ’80s Music Video Land… Today we revel in the neon-, leather- and metal-clad world of Missing Persons’ “Give”, a track we’ve previously featured as a Friday Video Pick. But today we take things a step further and explore a few elements of this 1984 video’s aesthetic. I desperately tried to hunt down guitarist Warren Cuccurrullo’s double-neck guitar (a piece he designed called “The Missing Link”), but the best I could do was an electronic drum kit. Though it’s not as cool as Terry Bozzio’s kit from the video. And don’t get me started on lead singer Dale Bozzio’s makeup and wardrobe! But first, a look at the video:

Hey Kate – cool. It’s funny how a post about Missing Persons can make my day. Missing Persons typifies what I love about 80s colorful, glossy new wave. Thanks for the post.

Thanks for your comment, Chris! This is one of my favorite ’80s videos of all time–I couldn’t agree more about the way this band exemplifies new wave gloss. Thanks again!

Wow, this iconic looking band had zero impact in the UK back in the 80s, so thx for a new find for my next ’80s mix 🙂
Got to love her ‘is it eyeshadow or does she have the biggest eyebrows ever’ performance makeup. And of course Warren Cuccwhatasurname was later in Duran for their 90s reemergence. A good way to start my snowy Thirsday!

Ha! I don’t know how I missed this track and video the first time around either! I knew of the band’s other hits in the ’80s but hadn’t come across this one until a few years ago. I’m also a fan of the black lip liner. Thanks for your comment!
