Happy Monday, Everyone! As I’m wrapping up the finishing touches on my bedroom makeover (stay tuned for plenty of photos next week), my attention is now turning to the living room. There’s just enough “stuff” in this space to make it functional, but I’m needing to add a few more pieces that will complete the look. There are two possible directions I can take: ultra-bright, or colorful with a dash of swanky. I’m a bit stumped! Today we explore the ultra-bright arena, thanks to some amazing images from my favorite retro design Tumblrs. Enjoy!
Above we see a 1980s image from The LA Times California Home Book by Carolyn S. Murray via drydockshop (such an amazing Tumblr, folks)! The angular stripes in rainbow hues are pretty unforgettable in this pic.
Next is another image via drydockshop: a 1970s living room from Interiors for Today by Franco Magnani. As with the living room at the top of the post, we once again see how black and white make the perfect complement to radiant hues such as yellow:
Above is the perfect marriage of grids and radiant red. Add some modular seating, and this room is officially in the spectacular zone. Thanks for the design inspiration, Zonkout!
How fabulous is this bright white living room from The Complete Book of Decorating: An Illustrated Guide to Designing Your Home?! Edited by Corinne Benicka and published by Hamlyn in the 1980s, this book clearly showcases the best in retro design. Does the rug in this space look familiar? The motif has made a serious comeback! Large pendant lighting and two-toned artwork are other standouts. This images comes to us from Tumblr Interior Exterior.
Next we have not one, but two fabulous images that show how warm tones and bright hues can flawlessly mix. Which is good news for me, since my living room features a lot of beige (from the diagonal wooden fireplace) and golden brown (from the wood flooring). On the left is another image from The Complete Book of Decorating: An Illustrated Guide to Designing Your Home edited by Corinne Benicka via Interior Exterior. On the right is a pic from deargenekelly. My living room currently features a rug in this same pattern!
I’ll end with another amazing photo featured at drydockshop, a photo from Inside Today’s Home by Ray and Sarah Faulkner. With beige and black seating and an abundance of yellow, this space also features a pair of side tables showcasing a design that you can purchase at IKEA today! Place them side by side for an instant coffee table. I’m seriously considering using bright yellow as a major accent hue in my living room.
I hope today’s pics have inspired you as much as they’ve inspired me! Do you have any interior design projects in the works? Feel free to share in the comments below…
