A suit and tie. Red lipstick. A city skyline. Sophisticated imagery was everywhere in the ’80s, not only because it reflected key elements of the era’s yuppie culture, but because it evolved along with 1980s Deco style. In fact, when shopping for ’80s art, you just might find that you’re able to mix and match works of varying styles when they all share a chic feel. ’80s Deco prints, cosmetic ads and certain Neon Noir posters can all coexist in harmony. In our second edition of ’80s Art Picks, we focus on the finer things in life. Enjoy!
At the top of the post we see an Ivo ’80s Retro Poster by Knotek, available through Etsy shop Poster Perfection. The mini-blinds really set a true 1980s tone. Are you familiar with Ty Wilson’s work? The artist conveys so much emotion with lines, curves and the subtle yet powerful use of color! Above we see a close-up from The Kiss, available through Etsy shop What’s On the Shelf? If you like what you see, check out this Ty Wilson selection from Poster Perfection.
Photographic posters were HUGE in the ’80s! Stay tuned for an upcoming post on that phenomenon. For now, we bring you this black and white ’80s-’90s poster of the Brooklyn Bridge from Edition Jupiter (shown above). This piece is available through Etsy shop I Luv Belle Arte. Below we see an original vintage Robert Hoppe ’80s Deco poster from eBay store Posters Please. This authentic work is an original first printing hand-signed and numbered by the artist!
We end with an 8″ x 11″ 1980s ad for Joy De Jean Patou perfume, available through Etsy shop Stills of Time. So chic, and perfect for matting and framing…
Feeling glam? Today’s works of art definitely bring ’80s sophistication home. In our next ’80s Art Picks post we’ll revel in colorful selections and the beauty of brush strokes. Can’t wait!
