Anyone watching the Golden Globes this weekend? What about the Oscars in March? Folks, I love movies. I love swanky decor. I love food. That’s why I can’t miss an awards show, as it combines all three–and gives me an excuse to prepare something special to eat. Whether you’re throwing an awards show party or spending a quiet evening at home enjoying the fun, today we present a few ideas for a scrumptious viewing experience…
Set the scene with an ’80s Deco vase filled with calla lilies. I picked up the white vase (shown at the top of the post) for a few dollars at Goodwill. Next, scatter confetti and curled ribbon on your tabletop. My #1 party rule: Make something, buy something. When you’re entertaining, don’t put pressure on yourself to make everything from scratch. I bought the delicious mini molten chocolate cake (pictured above) in the dessert section of my local grocery store. It’s made by the Sticky Toffee Pudding Company, and it’s to die for. Especially when topped with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles!
For the appetizer, it’s as easy as 1-2-3! 1. Unwrap a goat cheese log. 2. Top with the preserves or jam of your choice. 3. Add a sprig of mint. I used Blueberry Peach Butter from Stonewall Kitchen as my topping of choice. Heavenly! Serve this delicious nibble with crackers, and you’re set! Here are a few more shots from the fete…
If you’re hosting a group, I suggest making a big batch of a dish you love, then serving it in special glasses. I mixed up a 3-bean cocktail with a few cans of legumes, chili powder, corn, bell pepper and oranges. I’m a big believer that when you publish a recipe, it needs to be tested, tried and true. I’m still tweaking this one, so we’ll leave it at that. But any kind of tasty dish that serves a group will do here. Shrimp cocktail, ceviche…you name it! Have some wine or bubbly on hand. For a nonalcoholic option, try Dry sodas, such as the blood orange selection pictured above.
