Happy Friday, Everyone! It’s still 100 degrees here in Texas, so when I went to the grocery store earlier this week and saw the bins of pumpkins out front, it was a bit hard to get into the spirit of the new season. And let’s face it… Summer won’t officially be over for another couple of weeks. With that said, I’m already planning Mirror80’s next Retro Foodie photo shoot–an “Ease Into Fall” snack break. Hot coffee with whipped cream and spice cake inspired by one of the most popular packaged desserts of the ’80s will be the goodies of choice.
The mood board above also showcases my newest find–a set of mugs in the Corning Teal Rainbow pattern! So ’80s, so crisp, and so colorful. A nice counterpart to the traditional oranges and earth tones of fall. And when you’re not quite ready to start planning Thanksgiving dinner, this is just the right pace for our first foodie event of autumn. I must also say that the spice cake dessert is inspired by this discussion on Little Debbie Spice Cakes. While these treats have been discontinued, their spirit can live on in a fall cake with cream cheese frosting. Read on for more details, and stay tuned for the photo shoot pics later this month…
