Hi Everyone! I hope this message finds you enjoying a wonderful Sunday. As you can see from today’s pics, I’m enjoying all of the tropical possibilities the weekend has to offer… And it’s kind of amazing how the tropical aesthetic will forever have ’80s connotations. Which is why in this edition of New Retro Weekender we’re featuring a few tropical temptations to jazz up your summer! Here they are in all of their retro glory:
Add some nostalgic color to your life with stickers… The Vintage Parrot Stickers above come from Etsy shop VintageStickerLove. I once had parrot earrings in tropical tones. Imagine a 12-year-old with giant wooden birds hanging from her ears. Also, hibiscus plants. WOW.
Indulge in some citrus-y treats. We’ll make it easy on you with our Neon Noir Party post. If you missed it, we featured a variety of tropical decorations and treats, including this recipe for blood orange granitas.
Buy a new item with retro tropical style. Like these kitschy pineapple drinking glasses from IKEA (shown above), featured on one of my favorite blogs, Retrophilia!
Shop vintage for your summer clothes, such as the Vintage 80s Tropical Peplum Dress (shown above) from Etsy shop Sunday in Savannah Vintage.
Attend a summer festival. Did any of our Hawaii-based readers check out yesterday’s 21st Annual Lanai Pineapple Festival? Wherever you live, chances are there are some fun summer happenings in your area, possibly with a tropical twist. [pineapple image above from MauiNow.com]
Revel in this summer’s flamingo revival. That’s right–flamingos are back, and very affordable flamingo merchandise is available everywhere! I was delighted to stumble upon this Flamingo Favor Bag DIY from Oh Happy Day (shown above), used at a Pink Flamingo Baby Shower featured on the blog.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend–do something relaxing today!

I also had wooden earrings as a child, one parrot and the other one was an egg. They were my favorites!
Thanks for mentioning my blog again! 🙂

You’re SO welcome. Love, love LOVE your style! And it’s fun to remember those days of wooden earrings, although you were a lot more hip than I was with the mismatched earring thing going on! ; – )
