Summer Greetings, Everyone! I promised to share the recipe for these blood orange granitas, the dessert from our Neon Noir Party! They are so easy you’d think it was cheating to whip up a batch of these and call them “homemade.” Read on for more details on this tropical dessert with an ’80s twist…
You’ll need:
1 bottle of blood orange soda (I used a 1 L bottle of Central Market brand soda)
ice cube trays (1 per granita you intend to serve)
1 grapefruit
Steps:
1. Fill ice trays with the blood orange soda and put them in the freezer. The carbonation will help create lightweight cubes that are easy to crush.
2. Place cubes in the food processor and blend (the blender doesn’t quite know what to do with these light and airy cubes–if you don’t have a food processor, you can actually crush them with a fork or a heavy spoon).
3. Add a splash of grapefruit juice and garnish with a grapefruit wedge. Enjoy!
Don’t hesitate to try different fruity sodas, such as San Pellegrino Aranciata. And of course, it you’re making these for a group, you can stretch the recipe a bit. In other words, one ice tray filled with the soda can make two granitas instead of one, especially if you serve these with fresh fruit! Happy Summer!
