It’s safe to say that ’80s style has officially entered the world of commercial interior design! It makes sense that this public realm would be quicker to embrace riskier, friskier decor than the residential space arena. But bold design enthusiasts who are cutting edge enough to bring the ’80s home can get some fabulous ideas from spaces like the one showcased in today’s post! Salon chain Mič Styling took on a new series of endeavors: a group of salons targeting a more youthful, style-forward crowd. The result: YMS hair salon.
Kitsch Nitsch happily took on the challenge of designing the space, which includes a custom-made sofa and coffee table, as well as 7 custom-made mirrors. Vinyl wall decals and textures inspired by cut hair can be found throughout the space, which was clearly influenced by Memphis-Milano design. In fact, Memphis design took the ’80s by storm with its vivid motifs and colors. Not only is the YMS color palette (a mix of pastel and primary colors) a Memphis staple, the patterns showcased throughout the salon resemble those of Memphis Group pioneers like Ettore Sottsass. The mannequin below is floating in a sea of ’80s-fabulous geometry:
From grids to Deco-like curves, the space comprehensively showcases the signature lines and forms of the ’80s:
