Here at Mirror80, we’ve covered the emerging 1980s design revival, noting how the areas of fashion and graphic design have been the first to celebrate ’80s motifs. Yet the world of interior design has been slower to embrace the 1980s. It’s no wonder then that for ’80s tribal style to be welcomed back into our homes, it would first have to appear in the fashion world, as the last few years have shown. We’re thrilled about the ’80s tribal redux, especially since it has now jumped from shirts and dresses to the walls of our interiors thanks to today’s talented Etsy artists.
The work of Lauren Rust breathes new life into tribal motifs. Through her Etsy shop LaLa Designs, she sells original artwork and prints, including Tribal Print 3, shown above. Below we see Tribal Print 1 with its horizontal patterns that perfectly recall ’80s Southwestern posters, rugs and pillows!
Next we have the work of Meredith Schwab via Ditty Drops, an Etsy shop featuring amazing geometric creations. Not only does Ditty Drops offer artwork, it includes a wide selection of contemporary and tribal-style jewelry, such as earrings at amazingly affordable prices. Below we see a collection of arrowhead-themed prints, including Dusk Arrowheads, Sky Arrowheads, Wild Violet Arrowheads and Sand Arrowheads.
We now feature the work of artist Kayla Meyer of Etsy shop Owl You Need Is Love, which includes a wide selection of prints, from animal-themed designs to the Tribal 11 x 14 Mint Purple Print shown below. Making tribal style relevant in today’s world of bold geometric motifs, the piece uses triangles and chevron striping to convey its message.
We end where we began, with the work of Lauren Rust. Her Tribal Print 2 zooms in on a Navajo motif in rich hues of blue. Enlarged and perfectly off-center, the piece is a wonderful update of Southwestern style.
A special thanks to Lauren Rust of LaLa Designs, Meredith Schwab of Ditty Drops, and Kayla Meyer of Owl You Need Is Love for inspiring today’s post. Happy Wednesday!
