Paul Weller and Mick Talbot perform "My Ever Changing Moods"
So it’s a few days past Friday, but a bad case of vertigo prevented me from blogging on the day this post was supposed to go live! And this song is just too good to pass up… Today we spotlight The Style Council, consisting of vocalist and guitarist Paul Weller (formerly of The Jam) and keyboardist Mick Talbot.
“My Ever-Changing Moods” was released in 1984, and its infectious energy and soulful sound gave it instant appeal, both in the UK and in America, where it reached #29 in the Billboard Hot 100.
Today we feature two videos for the piece! The first is the official video, in which Weller and Talbot compete in a bike race through the chilly English countryside. Along the way they meet a trio of blondes dressed as Greek goddesses. I have to say, on the coldest of days when the weather is dreary, I picture myself on a bike in brightly-colored competitive gear riding alongside The Style Council. Or on a boat with The Housemartins a la “Think for a Minute.”
The next video is the band performing the track on a BBC Saturday morning program. Love the ceiling-mounted furniture! The vocalist by the piano appears to be Dee C. Lee, Weller’s wife at the time, who became a permanent member of the band. You may recognize Lee from her work as a backup singer with Wham! for songs like “Club Tropicana.”
