As soon as I learned about IKEA’s new AVSIKTLIG collection, I scheduled a shopping trip to load up on treasures. If you recognize the zigzag pattern in the photo above, that’s because it’s straight out of the ’80s…and I’ve previously blogged about it here! In fact, AVSIKTLIG is a collaboration between IKEA and 10-gruppen (also known as Tio-Gruppen). Originally consisting of 10 members, this design group formed in 1970 and is still going strong. Keep reading for details and more snapshots of the affordable treasures from the collab…
Originally designed in 1980, the zigzag pattern featured above and below is called Jazz. It was part of Tio-Gruppen’s “Play” collection, which was inspired by 1920s Swedish ballet performances! For more fun ’80s textile info, check out 1980s Fashion Print by Marnie Fogg.
The blue and black stripes in the next featured image are summer-perfect, and you can find them on AVSIKTLIG napkins, trays and more. Check out the entire collection here.
The plates below, also part of the collection, were an unexpected purchase. There’s something bold and primitive about them, and they complement any and every color palette! At $2.49 apiece, they’re a steal.
Today’s featured finds are just the tip of the iceberg, folks. Head on over to IKEA and check out the AVSIKTLIG collection for yourself. It appears that these items are in stores only (not able to be shipped online). Not near an IKEA? Have a friend pick up a few treasures for you on his or her next trip. In the name of good ’80s design, of course! Cheers, Kate
