Today I’m sharing a sneak peek of a DIY Easter egg project I recently created for Decoist. You can dye your own eggs as a starting point, or you can take the easy route (like I did) and decorate these faux wooden Easter eggs! The secret to pulling it off: stick to designs featuring sprinkles, dots, circles and macaroni-style curves. The eggs become the canvas for your retro-modern patterns. Read on for details…
We recently welcomed a baby daughter, and I’ve had the best time filling her closet and nursery with kid-friendly, modern delights. This Easter I wanted her basket to feature developmentally appropriate toys, as well as hand-painted eggs. Abstract designs like the one featured on the outfit above served as my inspiration. And we can’t forget the influence of ’80s motifs! My DIY project was born! [sources: onesie – Rosie Pope for Buy Buy Baby, Skwish ball – Manhattan Toy Company, blocks – HABA]
It’s easy to decorate the eggs with lines (sprinkles!), dots and curves. Use a paintbrush to create the designs, and use the paint-dipped tip of the handle to create the dots. Yep, it’s that easy!
Check out the full post (complete with project details) at Decoist. I love how the painted surface of these wooden eggs was very forgiving. Whenever I created a marking that I wasn’t happy with, I could easily wipe it clean. Sometimes it pays to go faux! Once again, here’s the link to the wooden eggs I purchased for this project.
I’m happy with the results and am now ready to celebrate Easter with my little Love! Tip: while the designs on these eggs are kid-friendly, they’re not just for kids! [sources for baby items below: onesie – Cat & Jack (Target), shoes – Cat & Jack (Target)]
Wishing you and yours a Happy Easter!!!

First of all, congratulations on your baby! 🙂 I’m shure she will have her mom’s retro modern taste!
Those eggs are beautiful! I don’t know how it was in the States, but in Portugal, we didn’t decorate for Easter in the 80’s. Did you decorate, when you were growing up?
Have a nice weekend!
