Happy Valentine’s Day!! It’s a strange holiday, isn’t it? While it’s easy to ignore the day and dismiss it as a commercial nightmare, there’s just something about the imagery that can’t help but channel an ’80s feel. I’ve been through some tough Valentine’s Days in my time, but during the years when I was happily single, I enjoyed using the holiday as an excuse to treat myself and revel in some retro-style heart motifs. I found it empowering to tailor the day to MY preferences!
With that in mind, here are a few snapshots I took last week, using supplies such as felt hearts, large glitter hearts and stickers. Just stack, layer and let the candy-colored magic sink in…
Even better if you have some ribbon on hand:
And last but not least, there’s always room for glitter! The glitter hearts below are from a garland (no longer available) by Meri Meri. If you love party supplies and whimsical visuals, don’t hesitate to check out this brand. I could live in a Meri Meri world and be indefinitely happy!
Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours! Stay tuned for Mirror80’s next post, which will dive headfirst into the aesthetic of an under-appreciated film shot in 1990. And there just might be some amazing ’80s art involved, along with a cocktail recipe. Until then, cheers to you all and thanks for reading!
