A Pastel Party

February 1, 2018 by Kate 1 Comment

‘Tis the season for pastels! With Valentine’s Day around the corner and winter soon giving way to spring, reveling in soft candy colors has never been sweeter. Especially when they evoke the vibe of an ’80s sticker collection. Today I’m sharing photos from my recent Decoist post on pastel party ideas, as well as a few snaps from my daughter’s birthday party (because pastels are great for kids’ fetes too)! First up: a palette featuring confetti, cotton candy, and a hint of stardust sparkle. Read on for party tips…

Fill Deco vases with pastel blooms. Picking up a few ’80s Deco ceramic vases from your local thrift store can make the magic happen. Especially when tulips are added!

Incorporate rainbow motifs. The rainbow wall hanging above was inspired by this DIY project from Laura Gummerman of A Beautiful Mess. I took the easy way out and ordered a cloud pillow from Etsy shop Two Tiny Sunshines to get things started! This fun project will hang in my daughter’s room now that the party has come and gone.

Bring on the unicorns. Because unicorns somehow fit with pastels and rainbows, don’t you think?! The plush unicorns above were purchased from The Land of Nod.

Hang starry garlands. Every pastel party needs a little sparkle. Check out my recent Decoist post for party decor sources (as well as how this fete can double as an awards show viewing party).

Incorporate cotton candy into the party menu. Cotton candy makes a great drink garnish, and you can even drop it into the champagne for a hint of sweetness. For those who want to eat the cotton candy as a sweet treat, serving it up in dessert cups is the perfect presentation. Sprinkle with edible star glitter and you’re set!

Here are a couple more snapshots of the fun! Iridescent wrapping paper served as the backdrop for many of these photos. Hint: it also doubles as great table runner material.

Here’s to sweet treats and party palettes that channel the magic of an ’80s sticker collection! Cheers to that–XOXO, Kate
