It’s officially February, which means it’s time to photograph my collection of ’80s ceramics! There are so many Valentine’s Day visuals that can’t help but channel ’80s style. It’s hard not to love this holiday. With that said, I find that any holiday dedicated to celebrating a certain stage of life (coupledom, parenthood, etc.) can be challenging for those who are yearning for that stage and not a part of it yet, or those who are experiencing it but going through a hard time. I spent almost every one of my first 30 years of life single on Valentine’s Day, so yeah, I get it. I’m all for happy distractions at this time of the year, so bring on the swans…
With that said, Valentine’s Day is a fun time to appreciate the different types of love that life has to offer, whether it’s the love of friends and family or the love of cherished pets. I’ve always loved design, so even if I was alone on February 14th, I couldn’t help but enjoy the holiday’s imagery, not to mention the decadent treats. Nearly all of the items photographed in today’s post were purchased for a few dollars at thrift stores such as Goodwill and Savers. The perfume bottle below was an antique mall buy:
All of the items in the post are genuine ’80s finds, including the flat-beaded necklace below (which I’m pretty sure was an Etsy purchase). Instead of a traditional red and pink Valentine’s Day palette for today’s photo shoot, I opted for blues and violets, with a dash of yellow.
Is it me, or do the swans below seem to be engaged in a gossip session? Or maybe it’s a love triangle?…
I bring out this ceramic heart vase every year around Valentine’s Day. Do you remember it from this post?
Wishing you and yours a low-key V-Day. Wherever you are with this holiday, don’t let the commercial aspect of it bring you down. Make it your own, even if it means treating yourself to a new purchase for your collection of ’80s ceramics…
