Happy Wednesday, Everyone! Today I’m announcing a new Mirror80 series called Out and About. In an effort to collaborate with others and widen the perspective of the blog, I’ll be visiting different locations (such as shops and restaurants) around Austin—establishments that somehow contribute to the retro-meets-modern design aesthetic we know and love. This isn’t a new concept for Mirror80, so in preparation for our first Out and About post, I thought I’d share some of our past “field trips,” complete with links so you can check out the full posts if you’re interested…
Above we see a cluster of bromeliads from my recent trip to Shoal Creek Nursery. Below is a marquis from the SXSW Film Festival, which I attended last month. You can also read about my SXSW adventures here.
Remember when I visited the ’80s-fabulous, plant-filled lobby of The Renaissance Hotel? Lots of marble, brass and greenery…
On a rare warm day this January, I headed over to The Arboretum, a shopping center in Austin surrounded by office parks (it opened in 1985). It was sunset hour at the time of the shoot, so the lighting was great:
Speaking of office parks, I’ve enjoyed two separate “fashion shoots” near the exterior of ’80s-built office buildings. Check them out here and here.
And last but not least, we have a visit to South Padre from last summer, complete with a trip to this off-the-hook beach souvenir shop called Bobz. You’ve gotta see it to believe it, folks:
Stay tuned for our very first Out and About post in the coming weeks. Hint: it maybe just might be to one of the stores featured in this post…
