Hi Everyone! On this first weekend of 2015, I’m setting goals for the year ahead. I thought I’d share my Mirror80 resolutions with you, not only because I’m super excited about them, but because getting the word out will encourage me to meet my goals. Accountability is a powerful thing!
First I want to thank my loved ones for supporting me in all that I’ve done and all that I’ve set out to do. In fact, the gold daily planner and gel pens shown above and below are from my best friend Stephanie (how did you know these were EXACTLY what I needed?)! The striped journal with the awesome worm pattern is from my hubby. He knows I’m obsessed with Nannie Inez, an Austin shop that curates amazing modern finds–like this notebook! Read more about it here.
So what about the goals?…
1. Collaborate more.
This is hard for me. I love spending time alone, and I’ve always thought that I do my best work alone. But I think that when you find the right person to collaborate with, you can’t help but grow. I want to reach out more in 2015 and partner with others–maybe even host an event! We’ll see where the year takes me…
2. Become skilled at creating eye-catching images.
I purchased a lovely mirrorless camera (similar to a DSLR but not as bulky) over a year ago, and somehow I haven’t taken the time to explore all of its features. I know enough to get by, but I’m tired of making excuses for not using it to the fullest. Same goes with learning Photoshop and creating more visual art, some of which I hope to share with you. It’s well past time–2015 is the year!
3. Grow Mirror80’s series.
Over the last few years, I’ve developed a number of series for Mirror80 that I’m very proud of. Still Life Style, ’80s Art Picks and ’80s Music Video Land are a few that come to mind. My goal is to continue expanding these series, and to dream up a few more in the new year. Some ideas are in the works…
Lots more to share and be excited about, but I’ll stop here for today and leave you with the promise of many amazing developments in 2015. What are your goals for the new year? Leave me a comment below!

Great idea! To share these on Facebook would seem gauche, here is perfect.
1. To ensure my income hits £100,000 this year.
2. To teach my 3 year old to read.
3. To dedicate five hours a week to my side business (fashion design!)
I did pretty well with my list last year, I’m now the lowest weight I have been since I was 21 and had my first book published, although I didn’t get round to running a half marathon due to breaking my leg 🙁

Mark–THANK YOU for sharing your goals! This is super motivating to me–I get great strength from hearing about how others earn a living, thrive at their side businesses/creative endeavors and spend time with the people they care about. You sound like a very motivated person, and this motivation is contagious! Happy 2015!

One of my goals is to run my side job–house painting–full time. I drive a school bus as my “day job”, but I’ve done this for 12 years now, and truthfully, it’s getting old. We do not get paid for summer break, or the two weeks over Christmas and New Year’s. Thankfully, I had painting work over the Christmas holiday, and that kept us going when I wasn’t driving the bus. I do a lot of work for a realty office in my town, as well as people who just want a room or two painted. I just finished a three-room job today, actually, and made more in one day than I do in a week. And it’s very relaxing to me; at least I don’t have to deal with traffic.
Kate says
Wow–it sounds like you have a successful side job that’s on its way to becoming full-time! Congrats on doing the difficult task of balancing a full-time job with a growing “side” endeavor. I wish you a fruitful 2015. Thanks for your comment, Jan.

Well, it’s going to come true at last!!! I just quit my bus driving job, and will paint full time!! My last day for the bus is Feb. 18. I’m taking my retirement and paying my house off, plus doing some improvements on it. I have work this weekend–painting an exterior for the realty company. All I can say is –YAY!!
Kate says
Jan–I can’t tell you how excited I am for you!!! That was fast work! You’ve accomplished your New Year’s goal in a month : – D A BIG congrats to you, and keep me posted on your endeavors!

Thanks!! It’s going great so far. And I have lots of work in the months ahead. Plus the exterior of my own house is going to get done—finally, after 7 years. One way to tell which house belongs to a painter–it’s the one that really needs a new paint job.
Kate says
I’m so happy to hear that, Jan! And congrats on being able to move forward with the exterior of your own house. I have a hunch 2015 is your year!
Jan Griffiths says
Yep– I just did my own house’s exterior, and it looks fab!!! It was a nondescript tan with darker trim (I live in AZ, so typical). Now it’s a light grey, with wedgewood blue trim, and such a nice change. I’m at my mom-in-law’s house now, doing some work for her, and some people down in her town. 2015 is definitely my year for doing what I want to do, not what I have to do.
