Every day I come across new Memphis-style products, photo shoots and clothing items. I cant tell you how long I’ve waited to see 1980s design make a comeback on this level. Not to mention, geometry itself is one of today’s major design motifs (hello geo!), so it makes sense that the current creative climate would embrace all things Memphis–and reinterpret this design movement in delightfully unexpected ways!
Today I’m sharing a few of my favorite New Memphis finds, such as the Nouveau pendant by Après Ski, shown above. A golden brass chain and colorful acetate forms make this piece a true standout. Below we see brilliant editorial work by Metz & Racine for Casa da Abitare via Trendland. The title/theme: Summer Splash!
If you haven’t yet encountered the Memphis-meets-tribal art and design of Camille Walala, you’re in for a treat. Below we see her T-R-I-B-A-L-A-L-A Notebook in Pastel, created for Darkroom:
OK, so this next vignette is more eclectic than Memphis, but it reflects the power of colorful geometry, as well as the way ’80s design can be combined with a variety of styles. Plus, the image features cushions by Oelwein, which are well worth checking out. [featured at Mamie Boude]
I’ll end today’s post with Table no. 62 by Kelly Behun, an acrylic coffee table with a striped cylinder base. This is the New Memphis, folks. Are you in love yet?
Have a bold Wednesday…
