For our spring Retro Foodie shoot, we present a Pastel Party featuring coffee, donuts, confetti, sprinkles and loads of geometry! While this ’80s-style party concept would be ideal for a weekend brunch, we enjoyed the goodies as an afternoon snack. Nothing like beating the mid-day slump with a little caffeine and sugar. Read on for all the sweet details…
The centerpiece of the event was an ’80s peach spherical vase filled with lavender blooms. The vase was a thrift store purchase, as were the coffee mugs and saucers. The dishware pattern: “Collage” by Villeroy & Boch. This pattern was manufactured during the ’80s, but the motif resembles some of today’s trendy geo patterns.
Little serving bowls in colors such as pink and mint green were the perfect receptacles for salty treats to balance out all of the sweetness. These Roundish Mini Bowls were a super-affordable purchase from CB2. We’re talking less than $3 apiece!
The party food of choice: Dunkin’ Donuts! You remember all of those “Time to make the donuts” commercials from the ’80s, right? While the donuts with pink frosting and sprinkles sure are pretty, our favorite was the powdered sugar cake donut, pictured at the top of the heap. The cruller (at the bottom upper left of the pile) came in at a close 2nd.
Sprinkles meet diamond and herringbone motifs in the image below…
Yes, we tried all of the donuts. We dreamed of icing, sugar drops and star confetti that night. And pink clouds. And neon thunderbolts. You get the idea!
Coffee was the preferred beverage at this pastel party. Of course, we topped it off with whipped cream and colorful crystalline sugar sprinkles:
The coffee stirrers were made from skewers (which we cut in half), and they were topped with triangle-motif flags made of washi tape. A super-easy way to personalize each drink!
The dreamy confetti was a mixture of silver stars and paper flecks…
Here are some additional details from our afternoon pastel party:
This party was super easy to pull off. We highly recommend taking a donut break from time to time! But don’t skimp on the salty snacks. Handfuls of cashews and almonds kept us grounded in the midst of the sugar and caffeine.
Mirror80 wishes you a delicious spring!
