Anyone watching the Oscars this Sunday? I’m a bit of a film enthusiast… I never miss a South by Southwest Film Festival, and I totally nerded out in high school and college while studying film by watching movies during my free time and taking notes. I love the Academy Awards, especially since it combines film with a chance to entertain–one of my other passions. So it makes sense that over the course of Mirror80’s history, I’ve put together a few photo shoots for party concepts that can double as Oscar night fetes. Today we look back at the top 3. Enjoy!

This party is all about the tropical colors and Old Hollywood style. Bring on the bubbles! And the bubbly, of course. The palette: pastels! Which explains why the goat cheese on the cucumbers is pink. Beet juice can be you friend! This little “menu” is all about light and refreshing treats. No need to slave over the stove. A more recent Mirror80 feature, this Awards Show Party with Retro Style involves a palette of purples and citrus tones. And a dash of gold confetti, of course! Cook up a big pot of your favorite veggie chili or foodie stew. Yes, I used the word “chili” in conjunction with an Oscar party concept. What makes it work: scooping your main course into pretty glasses garnished with orange slices. Then get fancy with your appetizer and dessert. Are we sensing a theme here? Dinner doesn’t have to be over-the-top, even if your guests’ attire is!

A retro New Year

You may recognize this last featured concept as our Retro New Year’s Eve Party photo shoot. Hey, I was up front at the time and mentioned that this fete could double as an awards show party, right?! Gold and silver are the colors of choice, beautifully embellished with shades of teal and rose. Brie on crackers garnished with lemon zest, mint and pomegranate seeds combine in the perfect appetizer that will set a festive, foodie tone for the night. Don’t forget the curled ribbon…
