Colorful ’80s Design!

July 29, 2013 by Kate 7 Comments

'80s color

Lately I’ve been obsessed with colorful ’80s design. I’m not necessarily talking Memphis-Milano style here, although there certainly is some overlap. I’m thinking of those contemporary homes of the 1980s that featured white walls, hardwood floors, and an abundance of radiant accents. Modern art, geometric motifs and glass block were a few signature staples of this style, as was a confetti-inspired festivity that looked good enough to eat. And in the fashion realm, it was all about the vibrant knits and geometric jewelry. Let’s take a closer look…

I see influences from 30s wallpaper modelled on 17th century crewel-work, plus constructivist paintings by – El Lissitsky? Also remembering the crayon drawings of Chloe Cheese.

I love that electric blue sofa in that picture. I have a similar color papasan chair that I’ve had since the early 90s.
