OK, so technically this Friday Video Pick is a Saturday Video Pick! But yesterday I was scrubbing the walls, floors and counters of my old place so we could close up shop there and focus on getting settled at our new place. I’m grateful to have this weekend to start unpacking and making my way through the mess of cardboard boxes that awaits me. Which is why I’m needing some energetic music to keep me going… Thank goodness for JoBoxers!!!
This stylish group emerged on the scene in 1982. Part New Wave, part soul, they had a big sound, thanks in part to the powerful vocals of American lead singer Dig Wayne–the other group members were British. And can I just say, I haven’t seen so many foot-stomping lyrics and high-water jean statements since Dexy’s Midnight Runners (actually, both groups had major hits around the same time). Check out the video below, complete with the “dog always begging for more”…
I’m also a BIG fan of this JoBoxers performance on Top of the Pops from 1983. Not only does it feature the band members in a live setting, it showcases a trio of go-go dancers in some wicked outfits that have nothing to do with the band’s style in any way, shape or form. But who doesn’t love leopard print high-waisted short shorts, a strapless black Glam-Punk frock, and an over-sized, belted T-shirt dress with a fringed hem? Check it out:
Here’s hoping your weekend is as lively as this track!…

Wow, I’ve always liked this song and have the mp3 but had never seen the video! Thanks! What was with the small but determined contingent of British ’80’s bands impersonating Depression-era street urchins? Was it in any way connected to the 80’s art deco revival? It seems nebulously related to ska somehow…
This song always reminds me of “My Ever Changing Mood” by the Style Council…
