There’s no denying that Mirror80 has been a wee bit obsessed with R&B videos these last couple of weeks. Especially the ones that involve large ensembles of fashionable musicians with a penchant for shoulder pads. And we’re just talking about the men… This week we are delighted to showcase Midnight Star, a group whose electro-funk rhythms brightened many a dance floor in the ’80s. If you’re familiar with “Freak-A-Zoid” and “No Parking (On the Dance floor),” you’re no stranger to Midnight Star. Today we discover why they have the “Midas Touch!”
A little jingle introduces the video for this catchy tune, and then the fun begins! An abandoned warehouse is transformed into a glimmering golden set, thanks to the help of a troop of adorable kids with cans of metallic spray paint. They definitely have some great moves, so try to resist your urge to pass out ventilation masks or call the EPA, and just focus on the dancing!
And when it comes to the fashion, it’s hard to convey the magnificence of Midnight Star’s wardrobe. Seriously. Any man that can pull off a pastel print suit with a contrasting print shirt, a metallic blue belt, and a rhinestone brooch is my hero!
“Midas Touch” is the ultimate feel-good ditty, and by the end of the video, everyone is happily dancing away. It may be all of the toxic fumes, it may be glitter inhalation, but damn, it’s a great party! Wish I’d been there… Happy Friday!
