Another South by Southwest Festival has come and gone, and as I reflect on the past week, one of my favorite moments was discovering the poster art of Jason Munn. Each year a poster show called Flatstock features outstanding work from artists around the world. Concert posters are the genre of choice, and given that the event is held during the music portion of South by Southwest, the artwork couldn’t be more appropriate! This year I purchased an amazing selection from Jason Munn…

Above you see two of his posters–I bought the one on the left. A gig poster for one of my favorite bands, Toro y Moi, this magenta and orange number has one of my favorite ’80s graphic design trademarks: the mini-blind effect. I love how minimal yet vibrant this piece is! It is now the framed centerpiece of my living room, and I’m wondering how I ever got along without it! The poster on the right, created for a Death Cab for Cutie gig, has a similar use of line and nautical theme.

Jason Munn is a San Francisco-based artist whose work  features bold lines and shapes, managing to be striking without overpowering. There is a strong, wonderfully-executed simplicity to many of his pieces, which can be purchased through his site. Munn was recently featured in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s “Artist Series,” and the work he created for this honor can be purchased through his website, as well as through the SFMOMA Museum Store. Read more about Munn’s creations on his blog here.

And because I just couldn’t resist, here’s one more look at my poster purchase. Thank you, Jason Munn…
