His major motion picture was #1 at the box office this past weekend, but Anton Corbijn’s achievements go beyond directing The American. An accomplished photographer and music video director, Corbijn directed many a video for Depeche Mode and other noteworthy groups such as Echo & the Bunnymen and U2.
Check out the video for Depeche Mode’s “Behind the Wheel.” When it comes to black and white footage, no one does it better than Corbijn. Rather than seeming dated, this 1987 piece has a timeless quality. Lights and darks are stark yet striking. The striped spinning wheel near the end of this piece is absolutely mesmerizing. Enjoy…

this is one of my favorite driving songs. and yes, the video looks amazing. compare this one to the nik kershaw video in your other post and it's hard to believe that they were made only 3 years apart. i guess that speaks to the steadfast quality of good design.
