A Chocolate Dessert Feast

January 20, 2015 by Kate Leave a Comment

Chocolate Valentine's Day desserts

Chocolate season is here! With February on the horizon, it’s time to get decadent. Whether you’re a fan of Valentine’s Day or you’re simply in it for the treats, a dessert buffet is never a bad idea. Today I’m sharing a few pics from a recent Chocolate Dessert Feast shoot I created, photographed and styled for Decoist. Ready for a closer look?…

Red roses in a turquoise vase

This chocolate-filled buffet is inspired by Lasse Hallstrom’s 2000 film Chocolat. In fact, the punches of red and blue (via coral-red roses and turquoise glass containers from CB2) mirror the wardrobe of lead character Vianne Rocher, played by Juliette Binoche. And the gold crepe paper streamers strewn across the table are reminiscent of the gold ribbon on Vianne’s chocolate-fabulous window display.

My party food motto: make something, buy something! A recipe for candied blood oranges from blog fave Paper & Stitch gave me the idea for chocolate-dipped candied oranges as a focal point, and the sun-shaped plate embellishment below was inspired by some earthy serving pieces in a key scene from Chocolat. I created a homemade stencil using parchment paper, then sprinkled a mix of cocoa powder, cinnamon and chili powder onto the plate. Chocolate-covered almonds and pieces of my favorite chocolate bar (both from Trader Joe’s) topped it all off.

And if you’re looking for an easy recipe for olive oil and sea salt brownie cookies, head on over to Butterlust. You won’t be disappointed. I’ve made these cookies several times since the start of the holidays, and they’re a hit at every party. I knew they were perfect for my chocolate feast! And don’t forget a cheese plate to break up all of the sweetness! Wine, coffee and anything bubbly will be ideal beverage complements to these snacks.

For more details (and LOTS more photos), head on over to Decoist for the full post. Whether you’re cooking for someone special or hanging out with friends, give this party idea a try. As someone who was single for nearly all of my ’20s, I’m a big believer in doing something nice for yourself as Valentine’s Day approaches. This chocolate buffet is a good place to start! Enjoy!
