Happy Friday, Everyone! Today I’m sharing the pics from my latest photo shoot–a tribute to the retro power of fall produce. Pumpkins and gourds are the items of choice here, but instead of traditional arrangements featuring fall leaves, we’re shining the spotlight on accents such as marble, mirrors and tropical greenery. The result: a fresh approach to the fall centerpiece, and one that can’t help but channel ’80s-meets-modern design. Check out the images that follow, as well as some seasonal entertaining tips…
Classic Yet Modern
You can’t go wrong with an orange pumpkin! Give a nod to Halloween by placing your pumpkin of choice on a marble tile. The geo tile below was created with an affordable floor tile and black marble contact paper. Check out the full DIY project here.
This vignette is a mix of retro and modern–it definitely channels an ’80s Halloween vibe. Junk food, anyone? Chocolate-covered pretzels are the perfect fall treat, especially when accompanied by a cup of coffee or tea. The animal print napkins in the next image are from IKEA.
Bright colors pop against the black and white marble backdrop. Don’t hesitate to get radiant! The teacups below are a vintage find:
A Tropical Twist
This next centerpiece idea involves a green and white gourd…and plenty of tropical greenery! Start by placing the gourd on a mirrored tile. The tile below is from IKEA. Can you tell I’m a fan of this store?!
Add some palm leaves, and you have a relaxed tropical centerpiece that’s perfect for those of us who are still hanging on to summer!
This vignette is ideal for entertaining. Enjoy a fall cocktail garnished with umbrellas. There’s no rule saying that tropical style is obsolete once the weather gets chilly!
Not in the mood for cocktails? Try beer. Or for a non-alcoholic option: ginger beer. In fact, the glasses in the photos are filled with Jamaican-style ginger beer. FYI–ginger beer is stronger than ginger ale and has much more of a bite. It’s my new favorite mocktail ingredient!
Neo Geo Style
We’re in the middle of a geo revival, folks! One of the most popular geometric shapes to be featured time and time again: triangles! Use them to your advantage. The napkins below are designed by Joy Cho of Oh Joy! Her fall collection for Target features amazing patterns and products, some of which have a retro-meets-modern look. I love the color and design of these Geometric Paper Napkins:
You may remember the napkins from the Fright Night movie party featured earlier this week…
To enhance the geo look, try displaying a trio of small white pumpkins on a triangular mirror. The mirror below was a birthday gift (one of my faves!) and can be purchased at CB2. Try playing up the bright pink in the napkins with a fluorescent bowl filled with the snack of your choice. I love serving popcorn in this vivid bowl from Target (shown below)…
