Several years ago I purchased The Decorating Book by Mary Gilliatt, and it’s been my ’80s design guide ever since. One of the images that truly captivated me was the photo above. That carpet and textile pattern, identified as nothing more than green and white diagonal stripes, really stuck with me–so much so that I’ve considered trying to duplicate it with paint on the inside of my open kitchen shelving. Turns out this pattern appeared in a variety of ’70s and ’80s interiors. Today we take a look at some of these stellar spaces…
Above we see a 1970s London apartment filled with today’s featured pattern, thanks to some very clever carpeting. Love how we see the diagonal lines converge from that staircase view! These photos were taken by Graham Henderson, and they come to us via my favorite new design Tumblr DRY DOCK SHOP. Follow the link to see even more pics of this retro-fabulous residence! And now for one more space…
Yes, this green and white pattern even made it to the shade and tablecloth realm, as seen in the kitchen above. Yes, that’s a shade on the ceiling of this culinary space featured in The Decorating Book. And it beautifully sets the tone for the entire space, creating a modern greenhouse vibe. Now a question for you:
Does anyone know who designed this pattern, and if it has an official name? I’d love to know more… Thanks for reading!

Looks a bit like this one; http://www.cuckooland.com/dnc/cuckooland/product/44505/retro-telephone-in-concrete-grey
