With Halloween around the corner, we wanted to share our latest Retro Foodie photo shoot… It’s an ’80s-style Halloween snack buffet! Our goal: to celebrate the wonder of junk food, but take it up a notch. So we featured a foodie take on pizza, popcorn, candy, chips and ice cream sandwiches–the stuff you nosh on while watching your favorite horror movies. It’s Halloween, folks! The last baggage-free holiday for awhile. Let’s live it up! Read on for all the retro-style details…
Let’s start with the decor. We made a “runner” out of metallic shred and candy-coated licorice bites. In the center of it all we arranged three ’80s Deco-style ceramic swans (readily available at second-hand stores like Goodwill), as well as a pair of small pumpkins. A nice mix of bright colors and pastels. You know, to give the event a candy-colored glow!
We then surrounded the centerpiece with six plates of munchies. The “main course” was pizza, and we included grapes and bell pepper for a healthy touch. Because we didn’t want the party favors to be little bottles of Maalox! Other nibbles includes a cheese log rolled in nacho cheese chips (in the tradition of Doritos), popcorn with sugar sprinkles, and ice cream sandwiches made from chocolate cookies and vanilla ice cream!
There’s nothing like soda and junk food! Instead of the standard choices (which are fabulous–don’t get us wrong), we opted for a trio of San Pellegrino citrus-themed sodas. Colorful packaging was a bonus!
We removed the chairs from the table area so guests could navigate the buffet with ease and load up their plates…
Here’s an overhead shot of the pizza… Because we couldn’t resist! This delicious dish was created with store-bought crust. We topped it with our favorite sauce, mozzarella (both shredded and fresh), and sauteed onions, olives and mushrooms.
…and we got a little crazy with the bell pepper! Why not take an artistic approach to serving these veggies? Of course, it never hurts to have extra slices on hand to pile on the plate haphazardly once the party gets going…
We’ll admit it… We used store-bought cookies and ice cream to create these “homemade” ice cream sandwiches! But they’re our favorites–soft double-chocolate chip cookies from the Central Market bakery, and Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream.
Here are some of our other favorite shots from the snack buffet…
Thanks for sharing in the festivities with us! We at Mirror80 wish you an amazing Halloween. Stay tuned for a few more Halloween-themed posts between now and the big day!
