Last weekend we celebrated Mirror80’s 3rd birthday, and today I wanted to share some of the details with you… Let’s start with the inspiration for the party! Perhaps you saw our mood board celebrating colorful ’80s design, which featured bold geometry, ’80s modern art and an overall festive look (think colorful balloons, ribbons and contemporary flair). Then we pointed you to our Pinterest board for the party, complete with a Confetti and Color theme! We brought the party to life with some of our own unique details, like the Boston cream pie you see above, topped with colorful confetti sprinkles. Read on for more details…
For the centerpiece of the party, I bought two monstera leaves and placed them in a large yellow vase. This tropical greenery can last for weeks (the last monstera leaf I purchased made it a whopping 10 WEEKS)! A white tablecloth was the perfect backdrop for the confetti “runner,” which I sprinkled on the table for a pop of color.
And we can’t forget the garland and the balloons!!! It had been awhile since I’d gone to the party supply store and ordered a big bouquet of colorful helium-filled decorations. I stuck mostly with primary colors, throwing in some powder blue to soften the look and tie the decorations in with some of the more pastel elements of the party.
Below we see confetti-themed napkins, along with drink stirrers in crazy Memphis-Milano-style shapes. It’s amazing what happiness $3.99 can bring! The montage also features additional shots of the party decor…
You got a few glimpses of the fun in our party sneak peek last week, including this close-up of my party dress, a super-affordable thrift store find. The fabric is the perfect homage to festive ’80s modern design and captured just what I was going for with this celebration:
Recognize the plates?! Yes, we’ve used this dinnerware for other Retro Foodie events. The pattern is High Spirits by Mikasa. Hello Memphis style! The platter below was used to serve watermelon slices topped with basil and feta cheese. All of the food for this event had a “confetti look,” thanks to delicious garnishes…
Here is our confetti quinoa salad, which includes bell pepper, corn and cilantro. Super easy to make, including the dressing, which featured white wine vinegar, lime juice, balsamic vinaigrette, olive oil, salt and pepper. I’ll share the recipe in a later post…
Ready for a few more party details, including the dress?! Also note our shot of the party food–tostadas were the main dish! Black beans, chopped tomatoes, fresh guacamole and pickled red onions topped each crispy shell…
And we can’t forget the cake! My sweet Mom baked this Boston cream pie from scratch, and the custard filling and chocolate ganache icing were to die for! Three candles for three years of fun at Mirror80. This year we hope to bring you exciting new features (such as home tours), better pictures (thanks to my new camera), and some other surprises along the way.
Thank you for reading Mirror80, and for your support and enthusiasm these last three years. This blog would not exist without YOU! And with that, we raise our glasses…

Great styling, do you work as a interior stylist? You’re very good at it!

I don’t work as an interior stylist at this time, but it’s definitely something I love to do. What a nice compliment! Thank you! ; – D
