Last week we glammed it up with an ’80s vanity design that incorporated elements of Deco style and upscale flair. Ready for another take on vanity/dressing table style from our favorite decade? This week we take our cue from the 1985 film Just One of the Guys, starring Joyce Hyser as a teen writer who poses as a boy and enrolls at a rival high school in order to enter a city-wide journalism contest. She’s a pretty convincing guy, but at heart, she’s all-girl, as shown by the image that follows. Read on for more details and pics…
When it comes to the ’80s teen vanity, the look is less formal, more colorful, and well–fun! In the screen shot to the left, we see that the heroine of our film recently received a bouquet of roses from her boyfriend. Let’s take a look at some other vanity essentials…
Do you spot the perfume bottles and ceramic swan figurine on the pink oval tray to the right of the flowers? Also pictured: lots of photos, a floral Kleenex box and other interesting knick knacks. For our vanity shoot (see the pics above and below), we incorporated a range of items, from a flat-beaded necklace in shades of beige (an Etsy find) to a ceramic swan a la Goodwill.
Another favorite Goodwill find: a burgundy picture frame accented with gold-toned diagonal lines. I suppose I should put a picture in there, but I love the way vibrant paper accentuates the heart-shaped cutout. Makeup items, a retro perfume bottle and a colorful cuff (not ’80s) complete the look:
Happy Wednesday, Everyone! Remember, when it comes to ’80s style, a little vanity never hurts…
