Today’s post is purely for fun! If you caught Mirror80’s recent roundup of retro interiors with checkered floors, you know that geo objects, vibrant colors and surreal elements were often set against the backdrop of checkered tile in the 1980s. I got a little bit inspired by the photos (see all of them here), and I decided to snap a few pics using items from my bookshelf and display cabinet. I love arranging geo objects, and I collect flooring tile to use in decorative vignettes. Here are a few of my current favorites…

It’s been a vibrant month here at Mirror80! Can you tell I’m celebrating the color and festivity of summer for as long as I can? But as someone who loves design, I’ve also noticed that this year more than ever, designers, bloggers and retailers have been putting a unique spin on fall (rather than getting wrapped up in the usual fall motifs). Pastels and even pineapples are emerging as trends, and this makes me realize that each new season or holiday is exactly what you make it.
