Today I’m excited to share Mirror80’s Thanksgiving shoot, a foodie extravaganza inspired by still life photography. In addition to celebrating delicious vignettes, this series of images just might give you a few ideas for easy Turkey Day food preparation options. I’ll start by sharing the still life photos, and in the second half of the post, I’ll talk more about the food and decor. Here are the pics…
A suit and tie. Red lipstick. A city skyline. Sophisticated imagery was everywhere in the ’80s, not only because it reflected key elements of the era’s yuppie culture, but because it evolved along with 1980s Deco style. In fact, when shopping for ’80s art, you just might find that you’re able to mix and match works of varying styles when they all share a chic feel. ’80s Deco prints, cosmetic ads and certain Neon Noir posters can all coexist in harmony. What is it about Niagara Falls that reminds us of the 1980s?… Is it those key scenes from Superman II? Or perhaps it’s the fact that many Niagara Falls hotel rooms haven’t been renovated since the ’80s, as illustrated by the images in today’s post! While die-hard Moody Blues fans may prefer the band’s earlier work to their mid-’80s tracks, songs like “Your Wildest Dreams,” “I Know You’re Out There Somewhere” and “The Other Side of Life” definitely have a special place in our hearts here at Mirror80. And it’s “The Other Side of Life” that we profile today. This video may as well be a performance art piece. Where else can you see a character lose his way in the back alleys of the city, only to see visions of himself in various helpless positions, including being fed head-first into the path of a rotating table saw? When I began watching MTV at my neighbor’s house at the young age of five, I must admit that I had little patience for this video. OK, so I shouldn’t be too hard on myself–I was a couple of years out of preschool. It was 1981, the debut year of the famous music television network, and videos were a brand spanking new medium. And as time went on and this Talking Heads video continued to be featured, I likely changed the channel in hopes that when I switched back, something like “Mickey” by Toni Basil would be playing. Little did I know that Toni Basil was the choreographer of “Once in a Lifetime,” today’s Friday Video Pick.
In lieu of a Friday Video Pick, today we’re getting follical. Or shall we say follicle? Yes, it’s a celebration of ’80s hair, executed by counting down the top five 1980s music video hairdos of all time. Let’s start with a disclaimer: TODAY’S EXERCISE IS PURELY FOR FUN. We know we’re being totally subjective.
The world of 1980s interior design is a richly complex one.
