Today I’m excited to share Mirror80’s Thanksgiving shoot, a foodie extravaganza inspired by still life photography. In addition to celebrating delicious vignettes, this series of images just might give you a few ideas for easy Turkey Day food preparation options. I’ll start by sharing the still life photos, and in the second half of the post, I’ll talk more about the food and decor. Here are the pics…

’80s Art Picks: Sophisticated Style
A suit and tie. Red lipstick. A city skyline. Sophisticated imagery was everywhere in the ’80s, not only because it reflected key elements of the era’s yuppie culture, but because it evolved along with 1980s Deco style. In fact, when shopping for ’80s art, you just might find that you’re able to mix and match works of varying styles when they all share a chic feel. ’80s Deco prints, cosmetic ads and certain Neon Noir posters can all coexist in harmony. In our second edition of ’80s Art Picks, we focus on the finer things in life. Enjoy!
’80s Style at Niagara Falls
What is it about Niagara Falls that reminds us of the 1980s?… Is it those key scenes from Superman II? Or perhaps it’s the fact that many Niagara Falls hotel rooms haven’t been renovated since the ’80s, as illustrated by the images in today’s post! Remember when Mirror80 rounded up the best retro-style hotel rooms from the Poconos? Well, today it’s all about the Falls–Niagara Falls! And if these images make you wish you had someone special in your life, just remember that there isn’t enough bleach in the world that would make those bathtubs sanitary after all of these years…
Friday Video Pick: “The Other Side of Life” by The Moody Blues
While die-hard Moody Blues fans may prefer the band’s earlier work to their mid-’80s tracks, songs like “Your Wildest Dreams,” “I Know You’re Out There Somewhere” and “The Other Side of Life” definitely have a special place in our hearts here at Mirror80. And it’s “The Other Side of Life” that we profile today. This video may as well be a performance art piece. Where else can you see a character lose his way in the back alleys of the city, only to see visions of himself in various helpless positions, including being fed head-first into the path of a rotating table saw? All the while, he’s pursued by a blue-haired beauty that may as well be from a Philip K. Dick novel. This is ’80s video magic, people…
Friday Video Pick: “Once in a Lifetime” by Talking Heads
When I began watching MTV at my neighbor’s house at the young age of five, I must admit that I had little patience for this video. OK, so I shouldn’t be too hard on myself–I was a couple of years out of preschool. It was 1981, the debut year of the famous music television network, and videos were a brand spanking new medium. And as time went on and this Talking Heads video continued to be featured, I likely changed the channel in hopes that when I switched back, something like “Mickey” by Toni Basil would be playing. Little did I know that Toni Basil was the choreographer of “Once in a Lifetime,” today’s Friday Video Pick.
Best ’80s Video Hairstyles
In lieu of a Friday Video Pick, today we’re getting follical. Or shall we say follicle? Yes, it’s a celebration of ’80s hair, executed by counting down the top five 1980s music video hairdos of all time. Let’s start with a disclaimer: TODAY’S EXERCISE IS PURELY FOR FUN. We know we’re being totally subjective.
1980s Interior Design Styles
The world of 1980s interior design is a richly complex one. From metallic accents to striking angles and curves, many ’80s motifs are surprisingly modern–even timeless–making them easy to integrate into today’s design. When I first wrote this post three years ago, the ’80s revival hadn’t officially hit the world of design. Only a handful of images featuring 1980s interiors were available online. Not to mention, many people still cringed when hearing the phrase “’80s furniture.” Oh how times have changed, thanks to phenomena like the Memphis-Milano revival and the ’80s Tumblr! Time to update this post with new images that prove 1980s style is reaching a whole new generation of design enthusiasts. Here’s our breakdown of 1980s interior design styles:

’80s Jungle Style: Welcome to the Jungle!
The ’80s were wild! We’re talking about a decade where people wore socks with high heels and rubber guards over the faces of their watches. But nothing was wilder than the jungle-themed visuals that permeated the art, entertainment and fashion realms. From tropical prints to vegetation-rich settings in music videos, it truly was a jungle out there…
1980s Egyptian Revival Style
When King Tut’s tomb was discovered in 1922, Egyptian motifs were all the rage. Pyramids, hieroglyphics, and sun rays appeared in the realms of fashion and interior design. Though not the first time Egyptian-inspired design had emerged, the timing of this resurgence perfectly melded with the Art Deco movement, and geometric depictions of Egyptian flair […]
