After reading the title of this post, you might think we’ve taken an office packed with ’80s decor and given it a more modern look. Not entirely so. The point of this interior design DIY was to take an office–in this case, the home of Mirror80–and give it a streamlined nod to the ’80s.
The ’80s teen scene rules this week at Mirror80, so we couldn’t resist posting this gem of a video by the Wolfgramm siblings, who together formed The Jets, an ’80s pop band whose hit “Crush on You” is now a staple at hipster parties.
Neon lighting–check. Glass block–check. Bright hues and geometric design referencing the Memphis-Milano movement–check. Throw in a dash of 1950s malt-shop, and you have the ’80s teen hangout in all of it’s glory!
The ’80s were wild! We’re talking about a decade where people wore socks with high heels and rubber guards over the faces of their watches. But nothing was wilder than the jungle-themed visuals that permeated the art, entertainment and fashion realms. So what could an ’80s brooch have to do with the spirit of Christmas? Plenty! In grade school I looked forward to the Book Fair each year. One year we got to attend with our “8th Grade Buddies.” My buddy and I were browsing the display table when we both reached for this brooch. “It’s yours,” she said without flinching. And my job at Mirror80 is to make sure her sacrifice was not in vain! (And yes, I’m still trying to figure out why they were selling women’s jewelry at a grade school book fair, but that’s beside the point)…
