Happy Monday! I got some new plants this weekend so I could finish my current gardening projects, and before I arranged them in their containers, I decided to have a little bit of fun… Who can resist some still life styling on a fall morning?! I sure couldn’t. Throw in some art paper in ’80s colors and mineral samples, and the photo shoot was complete. Lots of plant play in today’s post. Enjoy!

Still Life Style: Colorful Objects
Today Mirror80 presents a special edition of Still Life Style, highlighting a collection of simple colorful objects that create still life magic when combined. In my living room, I keep an IKEA glass display case that serves as a canvas for my rotating installation of still life vignettes. I’m a big fan of simple, easy-to-find materials, as well as vibrant colors such as blue, red and yellow. Below you’ll find a few snapshots of my favorite objects and combinations…

Still Life Style: Color Blocking
In today’s edition of Still Life Style, we take a look at what’s going on behind the action. More often than not, still life backgrounds seem to involve some sort of color blocking, like the image above from Wessel Baarda. We’ve definitely seen a lot of this diagonal/geo color blocking in home decor and DIY projects as well. If you’re interested in how to celebrate color blocking in the realm of interior design, check out this recent post I wrote for Decoist. For this post, however, we’re keeping our feet firmly planted in still life territory. Let’s take a look at some vibrant photographs, shall we?…
Still Life Style: Cotton Candy
Mirror80’s latest edition of Still Life Style is dedicated to the sugar-filled fun food we know and love as cotton candy. After all, when it comes to still life photography, edibles often take center stage, sometimes with a humorous twist. A new generation of art directors has once again made it OK for us to play with our food, so it’s no surprise that colorful, mold-able selections like cotton candy are a favorite still life feature. Here are a few of our current cotton candy-infused favorites…
Still Life Style: Patterns
Today’s edition of Still Life Style is all about patterns. As it turns out, many of the most popular still life-style patterns involve food. Hungry? Right about now I could use a sandwich, a citrus cocktail and a bowl of fruit loops. Speaking of cocktails, the images above are from a cocktail-themed photo shoot by Design Love Fest. And yes, you’re looking at watermelon and jalapenos on the left, as well as mango juice and limes on the right. Ready for more delicious photos?…
Still Life Style: Simple Materials
For today’s edition of Still Life Style, we revel in the beauty of simple forms. Yet there’s nothing simple about these images! The artistry involved in arranging compositions featuring materials such as wood, marble, metal and sponge can’t be denied, and when you add a pastel palette, the objects look good enough to eat! Lately I’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest, and here are some of my favorite still life-style finds…
