’80s Art Picks: Foliage Fever
Today’s edition of ’80s Art Picks shines the spotlight on vegetation, from flowers to branches. Foliage motifs were very popular during the Decade of Decadence, especially florals. Speaking of floral vignettes, above we see a Rare ’80s MIRAGE EDITIONS Poster Set from Etsy shop I Luv Belle Arte. Contrast is the name of the game in this duo of iris-themed posters featuring blooms and leaves outlined in gold metallic foil. Keep reading for more great ’80s art finds…

’80s Art Picks: Sophisticated Style
A suit and tie. Red lipstick. A city skyline. Sophisticated imagery was everywhere in the ’80s, not only because it reflected key elements of the era’s yuppie culture, but because it evolved along with 1980s Deco style. In fact, when shopping for ’80s art, you just might find that you’re able to mix and match works of varying styles when they all share a chic feel. ’80s Deco prints, cosmetic ads and certain Neon Noir posters can all coexist in harmony. In our second edition of ’80s Art Picks, we focus on the finer things in life. Enjoy!
’80s Art Picks: Abstract Pastels
Happy Wednesday, Everyone! Today we kick off a new series called ’80s Art Picks! Every couple of weeks, I’ll be rounding up my favorite selections from sources such as eBay and Etsy. The focus: interesting, affordable pieces currently for sale. I love heading to Goodwill and other thrift stores for my ’80s art finds, but sometimes it’s nice to look for exactly what you want online and order the artwork of your dreams with the click of a few keys. Today’s theme is abstract pastel art from the 1980s.
A Pretty in Pink Party
Ready for a party? If you follow Mirror80’s Retro Foodie series, you know that the intersection of entertaining and ’80s style is a true passion of mine. Things are going to get a bit girly today, but you should also know by now that pink floral style isn’t the norm here on Mirror80. Which means I must have a pretty good reason for this post…and that reason is the 1986 film Pretty in Pink!
On Making a Fresh Start…
Happy Monday, Everyone! Over the past week or two, I’ve made some changes in my life. Not huge changes, but a few small tweaks that have made a big difference. It started with a simple idea of keeping a variety of chopped fresh fruits and veggies in the fridge…
’80s Party Supplies
Feeling festive today? I am! I decided to stage an impromptu photo shoot using my growing stash of party supplies. You may recognize them from previous Retro Foodie photo shoots. Sprinkles, confetti, washi tape, swizzle sticks and more… I’ve grouped them into party concepts that would be fun for any retro-style fête. Now time to celebrate!
’80s Music Video Land: “Radio Silence” by Thomas Dolby
Today we begin a new series on Mirror80! It’s one I’ve been excited about for quite some time now. I’ve made no secret of my love for ’80s music videos, and I’ve spent time discussing why they’re so dreamy. During the Decade of Decadence, the music video was a new outlet for expressing creativity, so artists tried just about anything and everything to make an impact. And some AMAZING visual styles resulted. Which is why today we launch ’80s Music Video Land! A couple times a month, I’ll be featuring a super-stylish 1980s music video, then delving into the visual style headfirst. Fashion, interior design, art–we’ll cover it all!
