Today we shine the spotlight on Australian New Wave band Pseudo Echo. Perhaps you remember them from their 1986 cover of “Funky Town.” This track is from 1983, and refreshingly, it’s not quite as peppy. Not to mention, the video’s fashion unfolds like a runway show set in the desert. If you missed “Listening” in the ’80s, it’s well worth watching now…
The band apparently took its name from the title of a keyboard sound effect. Pseudo Echo’s debut album was Autumnal Park, and “Listening” was among the featured tracks. We hope you’ll enjoy the fashion from today’s video, unified by an abundance of grey and black tones. And pleated pants… And layered tops…
The Pseudo Echo of the early ’80s had a mystical quality that seemed to magically arise from a strategic combination of interesting melodies, drapey New Wave fashion and carefully styled hair. Among the band’s influences over the years: Japan, Ultravox, Simple Minds and Duran Duran. Enjoy, and Happy Friday!!!

Yes!! Autumnal Park is one of the best early synth pop records. Definitely one of the high points of this style in Australian music at this time, as the charts were still ruled by the late 70s ‘pub rock’ here and took a looong time for newer 80s styles to make it here.

I’e never listened to this album and I’m wondering how it could have escaped me all these years!!! Thanks so much for the info and the Australian perspective, Rick!
